GeoCities dies today,

that what Yahoo! announces few day ago that Yahoo! will close the free Web1.0 host Yahoo! owns.

for the first impression, the title wouldn’t make sense for those who wouldn’t know about GeoCities, but for the old webmasters GeoCities means an ERA of the web industry,

GeoCities which acquired by Yahoo! in 1999 considered to be

important outlet for personal expression on the Web for almost 15 years.

as the Internet Archive say,
IA also said that they will save a historical record for GeoCities

GeoCities closing considered to be End of an era for early websites as BBC said. Hundreds of people siad that they will miss the Old Free Personal Website’s Host,

Wassup, Why this is so important:

GeoCities provides its servies since 1994 as free web host for the personal websites, I’ve used it to setup my own website in 1999 after Yahoo! acquires it, the allowed files for me to upload there were raw text files and HTML files in addition to GIF’s and JPG’s and may be JS files,

The Site was totally static and the Ideas of use CSS files and Web2.0 technology wasn’t offered there,

The sites was depends on classic HTML decoration, 3D table border, GIF’s, blinking text and Google Adsense Ads.

Today when I saw my GeoCities Web Page for the last time, I wonder the changes of web industry and new techniques of producing websites, and specially Personal websites.
